      Our Story: A Legacy of Excellence and Evolution

      1988 Humble Beginnings

      Portfolio Payroll Ltd was founded in 1988 by two visionary co-founders, laying the groundwork for a specialist recruitment agency focused on payroll.

      2003 A New Era of Leadership

      In 2003, Danny Done, our current CEO, acquired Portfolio Payroll Ltd. At the time, it was a boutique recruitment agency in Shoreditch, staffed by just six employees. Despite its modest size, Danny recognised its immense potential, captivated by an impressive client base that included globally recognised names like Guys NHS, Microsoft, and Bloomberg. This vision catalysed our journey to becoming a market leader in payroll recruitment.

      2007 Expanding Horizons with Portfolio HR & Reward

      Within just four years, Portfolio HR & Reward was established to meet the growing demand from our payroll clients, many of whom were HR professionals. Originally branded as CBR (Compensation, Benefits & Reward), this division was a natural extension of our strong client relationships, paving the way for deeper engagement with the HR sector.

      2008 Innovation During Economic Challenges

      The global recession of 2008 presented an opportunity to diversify once more. Responding to demand from our loyal clients—many already managing payroll—we launched our Credit Control division. This strategic move positioned us as one of the few specialist recruitment leaders solely dedicated to the credit marketplace.

      2012 Diversifying into Procurement and Supply Chain

      Recognising the potential in the procurement and supply chain sectors, we secured a highly skilled recruitment consultant to lead this new division in 2012. Leveraging our established relationships with global clients across manufacturing, FMCG, and retail, we expanded our expertise into this critical back-office function.

      2018 Establishing a Northern Presence

      To better serve our clients across the North of England, we launched our Manchester office in 2018. This expansion allowed us to extend our reach to major cities such as Liverpool, Leeds, and Newcastle, supported by strong regional infrastructure and partnerships.

      2023 Going Global

      In 2023, Portfolio Payroll took its expertise international, launching Portfolio Payroll Canada in Toronto. After a thorough assessment of the market, we identified an opportunity to bring our industry-leading knowledge to the under-served payroll sector in Canada. This bold step marked the beginning of our global footprint, signalling the next chapter in our story of growth and innovation.

      Our journey is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence, our ability to adapt to market needs, and our passion for delivering unparalleled service to our clients. From humble beginnings to an international presence, Portfolio has grown to be a trusted leader in specialist recruitment, driven by a relentless pursuit of success.

      Overlooking Finsbury Square our office space fits around 65 employees with state-of-the-art facilities.

      Including a large breakout area that turns into a bar on Fridays! An open-plan bright office only 5 mins walk from Liverpool St and close to Shoreditch, we’re surrounded by bars, lunch hotspots and restaurants.

      Manchester

      Located in Victoria Place, our office is modern & open plan and only a 5 min walk from Manchester Victoria
station.

      Close to the City Centre and opposite the Manchester Arena, it’s only a short walk to shops and lunch spots.

      Toronto

      We re-located to our new Toronto offices in 2024.
